Our 2023 Adventure Tour Operator Snapshot Survey was just released, with some fascinating results. Japan took the number four destination for our tour operators, whilst Indian adventure travelers were the seventh largest source market. We also saw Oceania, India/ South Asia, Southeast Asia and North-East Asia climb up the hottest trending regions, whilst in Asia, cultural activities were the top trending activity. HDEC have introduced the Scenic Byways program, whose network is currently covering all of Hokkaido, Japan, with 14 unique cycling routes. One of the routes is a one-week 720 km cycling tour course traversing Hokkaido from Cape Erimo to Cape Soya. Another amazing HDEC effort is supporting a local project recreating abandoned historical trails in Mashike area to make use of them for adventure travels, combined with cycling courses overlooking the magnificent west coast of Hokkaido. Other projects that HDEC is currently supporting include an adventure program development within and in the outskirts of Sapporo. The Hornbill Tales is a 10-day self drive expedition in Nagaland, India, a wonderful offbeat drive happening from the 25th of November till the 4th of December 2023. The expedition will bring adventurous travelers around to Dibrugarh, Mon, Longwa, Sivasagar, Mokokchung, Kohima, Kisama, Khonoma Village, and Dimapur. On day 8 at the Kisama Heritage Village, travelers would even be lucky enough to catch sight of the Hornbill Festival! As I’m sure you all know by now, our Adventure Travel World Summit (ATWS) brings together 800 adventure travel trade professionals, and this year will take place in Hokkaido, Japan from 11-14 September.
