European Travel Commission Joins Tomorrow’s Air to Support Climate Conscious Travel Education and Carbon Removal With Permanent Storage

The European Travel Commission (ETC) has joined Tomorrow’s Air, acknowledging the importance of climate conscious travel education and carbon removal with permanent storage to restore our climate. Scientists estimate that carbon dioxide will need to be removed at the scale of over 10 gigatons per year by 2050. With the current capacity for removal at less than one gigaton per year, the European Travel Commission  is proud to have joined Tomorrow’s Air to help activate broad support for carbon removal with permanent storage in order to restore our climate.  

ETC members, which include the National Tourism Organizations of 34 countries in Europe along with numerous private sector travel players including Google, Expedia, Airbnb, Emirates, and many others –  are strategically focused on sustainability and view climate action as a key element. Tomorrow’s Air and ETC will collaborate with two goals in mind:

1. Support ETC’s Climate Action Plan and sustainable events goals 
2. Help increase the knowledge of European tourism  stakeholders about climate conscious travel solutions and the benefits of integrating support for climate technology into their strategies 

Beginning in July 2023, ETC event delegates will have the opportunity to purchase a 25 euro (USD26) package from Tomorrow’s Air. Delegate payments are an investment in climate conscious travel education and the scale up of carbon removal technologies. For every delegate choosing to purchase, ETC will match their payment with an additional 25 euro payment. 

Specifically the payment will cover:

• Engaging education about climate conscious travel and innovations in climate technology solutions such as carbon removal with permanent storage and sustainable aviation fuel
• An order for 52kgs carbon dioxide to be removed and permanently stored. 

While dramatic emissions reductions and conventional carbon offsetting to fund emissions avoidance projects and natural solutions for helping our climate are necessary, technology is also needed to help remove the trillion tons of excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Recognizingt his reality spurred ETC to join Tomorrow’s Air.

ETC COO Teodora Marinska observed, “ETC’s Climate Action Plan has set forth a comprehensive strategy to reduce our carbon footprint, empower our members to minimize the environmental impact of tourism in their destinations, and support the European tourism industry on their Net Zero journey. By integrating sustainable practices such as Tomorrow’s Air into our operations, we aim to create a positive ripple effect that extends far beyond our organization.”

Through creative education and outreach, Tomorrow’s Air is uniting travelers and travel companies to help scale up carbon removal technology that pulls carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and stores it permanently underground.
