Fabulous Las Vegas – for most people, it is a dream destination that features on bucket lists. As a city, there is so much going on that those who fall in love return year after year, finding new things to see and do that make the trip as exciting as the first time.

Whether you are there for a once in a lifetime holiday, making the pilgrimage to the heart of the casino playground to play in a big money poker game, or simply attending the convention capital of the world, there is so much to see in Las Vegas that you might not have considered.

Famous for the hotel casino resorts, Las Vegas is the home of mind-blowing entertainment and Elvis weddings, but it is also the home of spectacular natural and manmade scenery, mouthwatering restaurants, and even surprising amounts of culture.

When you visit Las Vegas, what should you do?

Casinos

The most famous casinos are in the hotels and resorts that line the five-mile-long Las Vegas Boulevard. This area is known as The Strip, and it is the heart of the adult playground of Vegas.

Whether you are looking for a high-quality poker game, slot machines or want to bask in the glamour and ambience that surrounds each casino, resort, and hotel on The Strip, you’ll find something to wow you in every single building.

The Wynn Las Vegas, for example, has an extensive casino – but also offers golf, the Encore beach club, the XS Nightclub, and high-end shops for that essential retail therapy. If you are looking for elegance, the Bellagio encompasses the famous casino featured in many movies, as well as a Gallery of Fine Art, a Cirque du Soleil in-house show, and a conservatory and botanical gardens.

Landmarks on The Strip include reproductions of New York, the Eiffel Tower, and the Egyptian Pyramids, as well as wild rollercoasters and big wheels.

“Welcome to Las Vegas” Sign

No visit to Vegas is complete unless you have captured yourself standing in front of the “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign for your Instagram. The most famous selfie spot in Vegas was designed by Betty Willis and erected in 1959 – and by 2009 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Located at the southern end of The Strip, you are best visiting early in the morning for the best chance of an uninterrupted picture – it gets busy and crowded later in the day.

Live Shows

Whether you are in the mood for rip roaring comedy, award-wining theatre, eyewatering daredevil stunts, or the very best in pop music, you’ll find a live show to titillate you in the environs of Las Vegas.

One of the most popular show teams is Cirque du Soleil. These artists have several residencies operating in resorts around Las Vegas, wowing crowds with their high-flying circus tricks and mesmerising performances.

Of course, big league comedians come to Las Vegas regularly, like Carrot Top – but you’ll find many comedy clubs in and around the strip that host touring comedians.

Musicians often have lengthy residencies in Las Vegas, with big names performing multiple times a week in venues around the city.

One thing that you should check out is the magic shows. Penn and Teller and David Copperfield are just two of the big shows, but if you are looking for something a bit more modern, then Criss Angel performs regularly in Vegas.

Day Trips

You don’t have to stick to the city limits when you visit Las Vegas, and being surrounded by the Nevada desert, the environment is often breathtaking.

Hiking opportunities abound in the Valley of Fire and Red Rock Canyon, or you can go a bit further and enjoy Death Valley and the Grand Canyon.

Don’t overlook the manmade wonders though – the Hoover Dam is a wonder of construction, and one of the major contributing factors to the growth of Las Vegas when it was first under construction.

Culture

The bright lights and Elvis-themed shotgun weddings might make Las Vegas feel a bit plastic and tacky, but you don’t have to look too far to discover that there is a whole host of cultural experiences that you can have.
